For that matter as the products change we see small players explode onto the scene and challenge companies who, only months before, would have bought them and gutted them just to shut them up.

Samsung seeks to ban iPhone 4S amid patent row

The Korean phone giant said it would file suit against the iPhone 4S in France and Italy, in a bid to ban the phones less than a day after it was announced, adding fuel to the fire in the intensifying row.

Sprint to Get iPhone 5

Sprint Nextel Corp. will begin selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, people familiar with the matter said, closing a huge hole in the No. 3 U.S. carrier’s lineup and giving Apple Inc. another channel for selling its popular phone.

iPhone, Android Most Under Consideration

Data from “Going Mobile” indicates 49% of mobile phone users are considering an iPhone for their next phone. The only other mobile phone platform approaching the iPhone in popularity was Android (40%).

Blackberry followed at 22%. Only 8% of respondents are considering a Windows smartphone, meaning it has the same popularity as a standard cell phone. A tiny fraction of respondents (1%) are considering an HP/Palm-based smartphone.

A couple of weeks ago I was proud to host the first Atlanta Small Business BarCamp where I had the pleasure of meeting Brian Cauble @briancauble from AppsoluteGenius.com down here in the un-wired southeast. Brian provided stats and numbers and his estimation that, at the current rate, there would be more Androids in use than iPhone within just a couple of years. It looks as though, left unchanged at the current growth and decline rates, Android may overtake iPhone even earlier.
